2011 Request For Proposals: Innovator Awards Program

Released: August 9, 2010
Concepts Due: September 13, 2010
Full proposal requests within 4-6 weeks

The Innovator Awards Program will fund novel, "out of the box” research projects in translational and innovative basic research.

Innovator Awards will be funded in the amount of $100,000 for one year. Grants may be renewable for an additional year of funding at the $100,000 level provided first-year review demonstrates achievement of significant deliverables and milestones, and there is evidence that additional funding will lead to meaningful breakthroughs in the understanding and treatment of pancreatic cancers. Interested applicants should submit a Concept Proposal by the stated due date. After review, the Foundation will contact the Principal Investigators of selected concepts to solicit detailed proposals.

  • Translational Research – Bringing the findings of the basic sciences to bear on practical, clinical applications for patients.
  • Innovative Basic Research – Aimed at solving the pancreatic cancer problem. “Innovative” is defined as ideas that have not been previously explored, or current ideas that are studied in a different way toward translational applications.

Eligibility Requirements
Applications may be submitted by domestic or foreign non-profit institutions, such as universities, colleges, hospitals, laboratories, units of state and local governments, and eligible agencies of the federal government.

Mechanism of Support
Responsibility for the planning, direction, and execution of the proposed project will be solely that of the applicant. Given the urgent need of our patients, we encourage projects that can make the largest impact in the shortest time. The total initial project period for an application submitted in response to this RFP may not exceed one year and $100,000. If the goals of the project have been met after the first year, and there is a reasonable need to extend the grant for a second year, this may be granted after review by The Lustgarten Foundation and its review board.

Proposal Concept
Prospective applicants are asked to submit a Proposal Concept that addresses the questions posed in the Form, along with NIH biosketch for Key Personnel.
