Precursor Lesion Sequencing Initiative
In 2009, The Lustgarten Foundation announced a grant totaling $375,000 to Mayo Clinic researcher Fergus Couch, Ph.D., in support of the Precursor Lesion Sequencing Initiative. The Initiative will support Dr. Couch in his efforts to expand our understanding of genes identified through the Pancreatic Cancer Genome Project.
Dr. Couch will examine genes identified in 40 tumor samples representing the earliest stages of pancreatic cancer. Identifying these changes opens the door to developing earlier detection screening methods and more effective, targeted therapies.
