My Mother Lives On

At the age of 53, my mom was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. Her cancer was discovered unexpectedly during an unrelated surgery and caught us completely by surprise. Her doctor gave her three to six months to live, but she survived 18 months after her diagnosis. I first learned about the Lustgarten Foundation while my mother was undergoing treatment. I knew the pain my family was feeling in that moment, and I wanted to do something to help others who may be going through the same thing. My mom passed away at the age of 54, but through the Lustgarten Walk—Colorado Springs, her memory lives on. She always wanted to help other people, and through this walk, I’m honoring her legacy by bringing patients, survivors, and their loved ones together in the spirit of hope.
