BRINGING A VICTORY FLAG TO PANCREATIC CANCER

Steven W SW Florida
“When Gigi Shanes-Hernandez was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May 2008, her family was devastated to learn the statistics of this disease. Gigi lost her courageous eleven-month battle with pancreatic cancer on April 9, 2009 at the age of 52. Over the last ten years, her daughter, Tara, has been embarking on a mission to fight the disease that changed their lives forever. “Family, friends, and the community’s support of this effort gives us comfort and confidence that together we can keep alive the memory of Gigi while helping others fight pancreatic cancer,” said Tara. By organizing the 10th Annual Westchester Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk, which started in memory of Gigi Shanes-Hernandez, Tara aims to keep fighting for Gigi and others, while raising awareness and funds to support research efforts of this deadly disease. Gigi, a lifelong and beloved Rye resident, enjoyed taking walks every day with family and friends through Rye Town Park and Playland Park alongside scenic Long Island Sound where the Westchester Walk is held every year. Since 2009, the Westchester Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk has raised over $3,600,000 for pancreatic cancer. Tara continues to honor her mom while helping others in affected by this awful disease, “The Westchester community’s overwhelming support has not only helped us fund more research for a cure, but it has also fueled our energy to keep fighting and provided comfort for those who need to heal from their loss.” Thanks to separate funding to support administrative expenses, 100% of your donation goes directly to pancreatic cancer research.”
