We are grateful for your participation in our walk program. Below you will find the answers to the questions we commonly receive. If you do not see the answer to your question, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A virtual walk is a symbolic, online fundraising event. Participants register for the virtual walk of their choice then go for a walk on their own or with a small group of family and friends on the same day and time as other participants but in different locations. To participate, simply register and then take a walk on event day. And if the scheduled day or time are inconvenient, walking on a different day or time still count!
It’s the next best thing to being together at a Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk. We call it #HOPEFromHome—as a virtual walker, you’ll join hundreds of other participants all walking for the same cause, on the same day and roughly the same time but in their own neighborhoods. Don’t worry if you can’t walk on the date scheduled for your city because you can still participate (see details below).
Since we can’t all walk together like at our traditional walks, we’ll get together virtually through your social media posts (more on that below). This is new to all of us, so we’re providing plenty of tools and resources to help you succeed in raising critical funds, 100 percent of which go directly to pancreatic cancer research.
The Lustgarten Foundation shifted to virtual walks in April 2020 in response to COVID-19 and the potential risk to participants. Because the risk of contagion remains, we have shifted to virtual all remaining 2020 walks and community through at least the end of the year. As we consider making the most-informed decisions around longer-term plans into 2021, we will continue to monitor conditions in and around our walk communities, stay abreast of the latest CDC recommendations, and consult with safety experts.
Above everything, we value your health and wellbeing, so please stay safe by following the rules and recommendations for facemasks in your community, wash your hands often, avoid touching your face, practice social distancing, and please only take your virtual walk in your neighborhood or in areas open to the public and deemed safe by local officials.
The great thing about a virtual walk is that you can participate at any time and from anywhere! Once registered for the walk of your choice, you can choose the date, time and location that works for you. Then, join other walkers online by posting photos and videos to your social media accounts. Join the conversation by tagging the Foundation and using the hashtags #HOPEFromHome, #PancreaticCancerResearch and #PancreaticCancer. More details below.
Registration is easy! Visit our walk page and scroll down to select the virtual event you’d like to join and click “register.” You will then be directed to the specific walk page, where you can select “register to walk,” and choose to register an an individual, join an existing team or create a team of your own.
Returning participant? Fantastic! Log into the website with your existing username and password from last year. From there, select “virtual walker,” and follow the remaining prompts to complete your 2020 registration.
Fundraise! Team captains and walkers who registered before the walk went virtual have been automatically transferred, so you’re all set to start or to continue raising funds. Use your existing username and password to log into your team and personal fundraising pages and keep the momentum going by recruiting family, friends and coworkers to join you in the fight against pancreatic cancer. Don’t forget to take advantage of all the tools and resources we provide to help you succeed.
For example, we recently integrated Facebook Fundraiser with our Lustgarten fundraising platform. Enabling this new feature takes just a few minutes and a few simple steps—and the average Facebook Fundraiser brings in at least $150.
All donations, regardless of when they were raised, will count toward this year’s virtual walk. As always, 100 percent of your donations will go directly to fund pancreatic cancer research.
No problem. The beauty of a virtual walk is you can participate from anywhere. Follow the registration prompts from above to select the location nearest you. And, based on the success of our inaugural National Virtual Walk in June, we’re considering a second national walk for later this year. Let us know if you’re interested in a second national walk and we’ll update you once the decision has been made.
Walk events that shifted to the virtual format will not be rescheduled for 2020; however, we are hopeful we can reconvene in person for all of some of the 2021 Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk series.
All you need to do is post about your participation in the Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk on your personal social media accounts. We’ve tried to make it easy by providing a variety of pre-written posts you can copy and paste into whatever platform you’re using: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn.
We want to see your photos and videos so to help us find your posts, be sure to tag us:
- @LustgartenFDN on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
- the-lustgarten-foundation on LinkedIn
Hashtags are another way we can find your posts, so try to include at least one of the following: #HOPEFromHome #PancreaticCancer #PancreaticCancerResearch.
Unfortunately, we’re unable to provide t-shirts for virtual walkers due to logistical and cost challenges. As the virtual walks get closer, we will be offering special recognition for our dedicated individual and team fundraisers.
