2020 Therapeutics Focused Research Program

The intent of this program is to support pancreatic cancer research critical to advancing our understanding of pancreatic cancer initiation, progression and the development of new therapies in four areas of focus:

Candidates must be nominated by their institution prior to submission (limit one nomination per institution) and submit a 2-page Letter of Intent by June 30.  The LOI must include a letter of support from the institute director, detailing the rationale for the nomination and qualifications of the investigator.

Qualifications and Requirements of Research Investigator

  • Outstanding research accomplishments as evidenced by publications and peer-reviewed funding.
  • Engaged in significant pancreatic cancer and/or relevant focus area research as a Principal Investigator.
  • Holds an academic appointment rank of Assistant Professor or higher.
  • Must devote at least 10% effort as Principal Investigator of proposed project; must also have staff members in laboratory who will dedicate 100% effort to the proposal.
  • Willingness to interact and/or collaborate with other investigators funded through this RFP or with the larger network of Lustgarten Foundation-funded investigators and laboratories.

Review Process

  • Candidates must be nominated by their institution prior to submission (limit one nomination per institution) and submit a 2-page Letter of Intent by June 30.  The LOI must include a letter of support from the institute director, detailing the rationale for the nomination and qualifications of the investigator.
  • Applications will be competitively reviewed by a panel of expert peer reviewers, and LOI chosen for full applications will be notified by July 31.
  • Full applications of 4 pages are due October 1. Applicants selected for funding will be notified by November 23, with awards starting January 1.
  • LOIs must be submitted through proposalCENTRAL.

Incentive and Award Funding Program

  • Requested budgets will be considered and evaluated as part of the competitive selection process.
  • Grants up to $400,000 per year (including indirect costs) for a maximum of three years will be considered.
  • Indirect costs may not exceed a maximum of 10% of direct costs.
  • Bi-annual scientific progress reports and annual financial reports will be required.  Annual continuation of funding will be dependent on satisfactory progress.
  • Funded investigators will be expected to have regular interaction with Lustgarten Foundation scientific staff and will be expected to be willing to interact and/or collaborate with other investigators funded through this RFP or with the larger network of Lustgarten Foundation-funded investigators and laboratories.
